Narrative
This instructional unit project describes a human performance problem within the United States Army, and thus, describes in detail the instructional unit designed to help close this human performance gap. The creation of this instructional unit will aim at closing the current human performance gap for the fifth event in the Army Combat Fitness Test, the leg tuck exercise as it pertains to the lack of knowledge and skill necessary to successfully compete in the event. In addition, this instructional unit will aim to help small unit leaders effectively create a small unit physical readiness plan that focuses on increasing human performance in the ACFT leg tuck event.
Context
The leg tuck event is the fifth event in the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) and all soldiers assigned in all three components of the United States Army must pass the event. Failure to pass the event leads to separation from service for all soldiers assigned. Lack of human performance for soldiers within this event not only serves as a risk from separation of service, but it also erodes unit readiness and hurts the soldiers for favorable actions such as promotions, awards, recognition, etc.

Performance Problem
Soldiers within all three components of the United States Army (Active, Reserve, National Guard) are experiencing poor performance results in the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) leg tuck event. The lack of performance in the leg tuck event hinders the soldiers overall ACFT score and potentially risks the ability for the servicemembers' potential for continued service and directly affects their opportunity at promotions and all favorable actions within the Army. In addition, poor human performance in the ACFT leg tuck event degrades unit physical readiness and contributes to hindering the Army’s ability to fight and win during full spectrum operations in a multi-domain environment.
Instructional Unit Goals
During this four-hour lesson students will develop an understanding of the proper way to implement a small unit physical readiness training plan (focused on the ACFT leg tuck event), effectively demonstrate and execute the leg tuck event, and effectively demonstrate and execute the three training exercises associated with the leg tuck event IAW Army Training Circular (TC) 3-22.20. This instructional unit stresses to the students (Army Team Leaders), the importance of creating an effective small unit physical readiness training plan, by using the three approved training exercises, to increase overall human performance in the ACFT leg tuck event. As a result of this instructional unit, students will increase the knowledge and skills necessary to plan and lead a focused and effective physical readiness training plan aimed at improving human performance in the leg tuck event.
Instructional Unit Overview
This course of instruction is a newly created standalone course that requires face-to-face classroom and hands-on practical application. During this course, the students will complete (2 hours of actual seat time and additional 2 hours for practical application) within the organizational unit. This course is designed to support the requirements of the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) outlined within the Army Training Circular (TC) 3-22.20 Army Physical Readiness Training, Field Manual (FM) 7-22 Holistic Health and Fitness, and Field Manual (FM) 7-0 Training to Win in a Complex World.
Target Audience
The target audience for this instructional unit applies to all soldiers, commissioned or enlisted, within the United States Army. This instructional unit is focused on training small unit leaders (team leaders) to serve as trainers for the leg tuck exercise within their units and organization. This instructional unit is meant to apply to all soldiers in any of the three components of the United States Army (Active Duty, Army Reserve, Army National Guard).
